Iain joined the Metropolitan Police in 1989, where he served as a uniform officer in South London, and then as a detective in Special Branch until 2002, when he transferred to the West Midlands Police. He served as a Sergeant in Coventry, an Inspector in Birmingham and then moved between Child Protection and Counter Terrorism as a Detective Inspector.Following a promotion to Detective Chief Inspector, he worked in the Force Intelligence department, and then as an operational Superintendent managing the day to day running of the Force. In his last twelve months he ran a national project that set out to use artificial intelligence to better understand serious crime.

 

Iain is now an independent advisor to technology companies working with law enforcement. He is married with four children,  loves fishing, good food, drinking beer and rolling his eyes at police dramas on the telly.In his spare time, Iain works as a voluntary Chaplain in a local hospice.
